A thing I’ve noticed over the years is how easy it is to bond with someone, over your exaggerated feeling about something – “I would willingly let her murder me” or “I’d give up my firstborn to never see that stupid car commercial again” or “I’ll die right here if I go through another Monday!”. Things likes that.
These inflated hyperbolas make it simple to find a common interest with your neighbor/class mate/co-worker, but does it help you live your best life? What is ‘your best life’ anyways?
I’ve heard dozens of life coaches, politicians, psychologists, etc., say the term, but I’ve yet to come across a single definition everyone agrees with. Some say that ‘your best life’ is full of success, others say it’s a life of service, and still more argue that it is pursuing happiness, American Revolution style. I had a friend once who said his best life would consist of alternating sleep and Netflix.
I think that your best life is using your time the way you want to.
I’ve decided that, with the time I have left on this Earth, I don’t want to pretend I have negative feelings, just to fit in with others.
I don’t consider that model is pretty enough to let her murder me, I actually think that car commercial is pretty cute, and I like Mondays. Tbh, I rarely have passionate feelings about every day living, and when I say that I do, just to agree with others, I am doing both of us a disservice.
Letting people think I’m something I’m not is just as bad as letting myself fall into the trap of the status quo for the sake of comfort.
Pretending to be something I’m not is not how I want to live my life. Every second counts, and I’m going to see the world through my own point of view before it gets dark.
Yes, Mondays can suck, but they don’t have to. You can choose to see Monday as the day that sentences you back into a dreary job, stifling life, or you can see Monday as the day you reset your life, altering your course ever-so-slightly so that you are closer to your goal.
Mondays can be filled with productivity, ambition, and go-getting. Monday is the beginning of a whole new week, filled with endless possibilities. Mondays are for those who believe that your best life is made out of time – and who has time to be wishing for death, or for Monday to step on a lego, when there is so much you can do right now to catch your dreams?
