Hello, everyone! Happy Monday from your Friendly-Neighborhood-Blogger, and this week, we are talking about….
Otherwise known as the most exciting topic in the world. Seriously, think about it – sleep affects every aspect of our waking life. Studies show that lack of sleep can lead to unhealthy weight gain, compromised immune systems, lower test scores, more acne, and, of course, a general crabby attitude. But, sometimes, it’s just really hard to enter Dreamland! Below are my top five tips for falling asleep – let me know in the comments below what you try, and sweet dreams!
Some gentle yoga and light stretching will do wonders to relax your body, and it’s probably good for your spine, especially if you have a desk job or have been sitting all day. Try to slowly touch your toes, reach your hands to the ceiling, and roll your neck a bit, and see how that affects your mood.
2. Drink some tea
Not a LOT, but enough so that you don’t feel dehydrated right before knocking out for several hours. If you don’t like the taste of plain tea, try adding some honey for a healthy sweetener, or some milk to fatten it up. I personally love lemon tea with a dash of honey.
3. Turn off the electronics
Seriously, just do it. Preferably an hour before going to bed, but if you can’t manage that, then at least don’t touch your phone or laptop whilst in bed. Also, bonus tip: take the hour before bed to read a book you’ve been meaning to enjoy! I’m currently engrossed in Emma by Jane Austen, and I love it.
4. Count your blessings
Sometimes, my head is spinning so quickly from worries and stress that I end up staying up past two in the morning. Not a good idea, at all! So, I’ve taken to my old childhood habit of counting the things I’m grateful for instead – it helps me keep things in perspective, and the numbering is reminiscent of counting sheep.
5. Turn off the Lights
I don’t know about you, but even fairy lights are too bright for me, and unless I’m completely exhausted (in which case I can sleep through an asteroid crash), I’ll just spend a realllyyyy long time staring at the pretty lights, and not actually sleeping. Turn off the lights you can see directly from your bed, and drift off!
