We’re almost done with the school year! Hallelujah!
Sadly, I won’t be going to crazy parties in Mexico this weekend, nor will I begetting wasted at a music festival – however, I am spending a lot of time hanging out with friends, hitting up new food joints, and relaxing after the first-half-of-the-semester. In order to make sure my brain doesn’t turn to mush, I am trying to do something productive every day – lemme know in the comments below if you try these ideas out.
1. Watch a documentary
Educate yo’self about the world. There are documentaries – VERY GOOD ONES – on food, true crime, the Olympics, fast fashion, and basically everything under the sun (and above it) on Netflix, Hulu, and even Youtube. Learn something new while you veg on your coach, it’s a win-win situation.
2. Spring clean
Yes, I will go here. Even if you don’t deep clean your dorm room, just organizing your binder, cleaning out your backpack, and wiping down surfaces will make you feel so much more relaxed and proud of your space. I love listening to a playlist or podcast when I clean, to keep both my mind and my hands busy.
3. Read a book
And not a textbook, either!!!! I love reading, but I’ve found even less time to indulge in this hobby in college. So, during the break, I have a personal goal of finishing a book a day. I love historical non-fiction, science fiction, and fantasy in particular, but just read a book because you want to, not because of a grade – trust me, it’s a much better experience.
4. Apply for opportunities
The grind never stops, and spring break is the perfect time to apply for scholarships, interview for internships, write essays for publication, etc. This isn’t particularly fun, but your hard work will pay off, and it is so much more rewarding to know that you are this much closer to accomplishing your goal.
If you, like me, ditched the gym as soon as midterm season came along, then you, like me, are probably feeling your muscles protest for lack of exercise. Do yourself a favor and don’t give up on that new year resolution – even just choosing to walk over taking the bus will do wonders for your health. Who knows, you might even be able to beat the flu that’s been going around!
