I love January 1st – it’s one of my favorite days in the whole calendar. The fresh page, new start vibes always inspire me to get my life in order and make some goals for the year ahead. Comment below what your new year resolutions are, and Happy 2018!
1. Take care of my body
I’m past the phase where my goal was to “lose ten pounds” or “get shredded”. Now, I just want to have control over my limbs when I’m a senior citizen. Taking care of my body means eating more vegetables, exercising regularly, staying hydrated, keeping a sleep schedule, wearing sunscreen, and stretching, and I plan on doing all these things on a daily basis this year.
2. Take care of my mind
I want to still be sharp and clear-headed when I’m a senior citizen, and that means I need to exercise my brain as regularly as I exercise my limbs. By studying my favorite languages daily, making creative content (like this blog, artwork, or a novel), doing well in school, and reading even more books, I can take care of my lil’ noggin for years to come.
3. Take care of my loved ones
I’m pretty awful at keeping in touch with folks (out of sight, out of mind), but I am going to consistently call/text/Snapchat my friends and family throughout this new year. Even if it’s just sending a meme to my best friend, or calling my grandma twice a week, I want the people in my life to know how much I care about them.
4. Take care of the planet
I’ve always cared about the environment, but for the past few years I’ve learnt more and more about how damaging plastic and other non-degradable materials are to our planet. My ultimate goal is to one day be zero waste, and so in 2018 I’m going to start by refusing all plastic eating utensils. As a college student, this is where I see the most waste, and so this year, I will try to make a positive change.
5. Take care of my soul
2017 was an amazing year, but it was also pretty stressful at times, and it made me realize how important mental health is. Taking care of my self/soul/innards means making an effort to do the things I love, shutting down toxic people, using my backbone to stand up for my beliefs, and focusing on gratitude. 2018 is the year I (hopefully) make headway towards inner peace and self love.
